FOOD


Open door continues to serve, love and care for those who are lonely, frightened, ill, coping with poverty and isolation, 



St. Mary’s Food Bank is serving the community 

of Mississauga by providing food, meals and 

other services through its three locations.

The Mississauga Food Bank is a federally registered charitable organization.  The Mississauga Food Bank is located on the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

They are well known for their food banks, Christmas hampers and kettles. There are over 230 CFS offices across Canada, providing over 50 different types of programs and supports to those who are vulnerable, facing challenges or in crisis.


For over 29 years Knights Table has served the needs of people dealing with issues of poverty and homelessness in the Peel Region. 





MWC food banks and Meals on Wheels for Seniors are still operating, albeit  with  precautionary measures in place. Please contact them for more information

COUNSELLING

Peel Children’s Centre offers many excellent treatment services for children, teenagers, and families who are having serious issues with relationships, feelings, or behaviour.

Peel Children’s Centre is also the Lead Agency for all Children and Youth Mental Health Programs in Peel. To begin accessing child and youth mental health programs, individuals and families should contact Centralized Intake at 905-451-4655

Peel Family Mediation Services offers family law mediation (on-site and off-site) and Mandatory Information programs (free) to the public in the Region of Peel and Dufferin County. They are committed to providing high quality mediation services; building a greater understanding of family law mediation through public education; training new family law mediators; and responding appropriately to the diverse needs of the communities of Peel and Dufferin County. 

The John Howard Society of Ontario works toward effective, just and humane responses to crime and its causes. Through community offices across the province, we provide programs and services that help people affected by the justice system develop key life skills, navigate issues of criminal justice, and build productive futures after incarceration.


They provide professional counselling, educational programs, employment support services, support for people with developmental disabilities and their families, as well as support for victims of violence and abuse.

They are a community-based agency that works to strengthen families, couples and individuals through guidance, coaching, mentoring, education and support.


Good2Talk provides confidential support services for post-secondary students in Ontario and Nova Scotia.

FAMILY VIOLENCE: CFSPD is a multi-service counselling agency that has been providing services in Peel since 1981. Their mandate is to strengthen families and help stop family violence. 





MENTAL HEALTH, ADDICTION & GAMBLING: ConnexOntario is an information and referral service, focusing on mental health, addiction and problem gambling services in the province. They support Ontarians via phone, web-chat and email 24/7. 

CHILD & ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH: They treat children and youth who have either a diagnosed psychiatric condition, or significant symptoms or unusual behaviour indicative of a psychiatric condition.

EATING DISORDER: Their programs  offer assessment and treatment for individuals (17yrs and over) suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and eating disorders not otherwise specified (excluding binge eating disorders). 

They believe that through open, supportive dialogue, they can help break the shame, stigma and silence that affect nearly 1 million Canadians living with a diagnosable eating disorder — and the millions of others who are struggling with food and weight preoccupation. 

VULNERABLE FAMILIES: Their mission is to provide support, education and counselling to vulnerable families, including pregnant and parenting youth with the goal of empowering them to move forward and thrive.

HEALTH

SENIOR HEALTH PROGRAM: For seniors 65 years or older, who have no dental insurance and cannot afford 

the cost of dental care.

TELEHEALTH ONTARIO: This is a free and confidential service you can call for health advice and a registered nurse is available 24/7 as well as an interpreter.

In a medical emergency Call 911 immediately.

HEALTH SMILES ONTARIO: For children and youth 17 years old 

and under from low-income households

CMHA is a nationwide organization that promotes mental health and supports people recovering from mental illness.





Community Living Mississauga Is A Non-Profit, Charitable Organization Which Supports People Who Have An Intellectual Disability To Identify And Achieve Their Personal Goals And Interests.

Trillium Health PartThe hospital encompasses three main sites – Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and Queensway Health Centre – offering the full range of acute care hospital services as well as a variety of community-based, specialized programs.

Helping people stay healthy, delivering high-quality care when they need it and protecting the health system for future generations.


one-Link provides coordinated access to a number of addictions and mental health services within Mississauga and Halton through one referral and intake assessment process.

Their programs deliver health protection and promotion, disease prevention, senior care, and emergency services to all residents in Peel.



Community mental health programs provide a variety of services to help support people who have ongoing mental health issues living in the community. Services offered include information and referral, case management, housing supports, rehabilitation, employment assistance, counselling, support groups and social and recreational opportunities, and peer support services for consumers and survivors.

They are committed to making our communities healthier and happier for all by putting the mental health needs of infants, children, youth, young adults and families first.



Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) offers a wide range of services, products and information to help remove communication barriers at home, at school and at work. They provide support for people of all ages who are Deaf and hard of hearing.

They are a non-profit community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario.
They provide access to justice for people with low incomes living in Brampton, Caledon and Dufferin County.


Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) gives low-income people access to a range of legal services to meet their legal needs. Some of the legal services it provides are: Legal advice and representation. Duty counsel services (for people who arrive in criminal, family or youth courts without a lawyer



MCLS is funded by Legal Aid Ontario and provides free legal services to the low-income residents of Mississauga. Their services include legal advice, brief services, such as letters and help with negotiations, and representation in courts and administrative tribunals. 

GENERAL


EDUCATION: FEC uses Adlerian principles to encourage positive family relationships, basing everything on the premise that when we feel encouraged, we feel capable and appreciated and will generally act in a connected and cooperative way





ADULT DEVELOPMENT SERVICES: DSO is the access point for adult developmental services funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) in Ontario. 


If you are 18 years old you must apply through DSO to see if you are eligible to receive adult ministry-funded supports available in your community.

COMMUNITY MOBILIZING: Peel Regional Police is committed to a vision of 'A Safer Community Together'. One of our objectives is to address crime through call response, investigations, enforcement, and police visibility. With over 2,000 police officers and almost 900 civilian employees, their solvency rates are some of the highest in the country and crime rates are below provincial levels.


HELP FOR WOMEN: They work with women who are at risk or are in conflict with the law by providing coping strategies and opportunities to help build confidence and guide them to be productive and empowered individuals.





If you prefer to chat online with other young people the Peer-to-Peer Community at Kids Help Phone may be an option for you. Here, you can get to know the online support forums — what they are, who can use them, how we help protect your privacy and more. 

They provide 24/7 support to individuals in our community at risk and are most vulnerable. We are Canada’s oldest volunteer delivered crisis, emotional support and suicide prevention + intervention + postvention service agency.


RECREATION

The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program matches a child 6 – 17 years of age (Little Sister/Little Brother) with a caring adult (Big Sister/Big Brother) over the age of 18.  Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.




BGC Peel is committed to building a sustainable organization that embraces diversity, actively pursues equity through policies and programming, and adopts an inclusive environment. The core values of belonging, respect, encouragement and support, working together and speaking out are the standard by which all BGC Peel Club services are measured.

Many of their programs require online registration through Active Mississauga. If you need help using Active Mississauga, watch their registration video or contact the Library.

All programs are free and children 10 years of age and younger must have a caregiver in the library at all times. 



They offer a wide range of activities - Swimming, Skating, Fitness, Sports, Golf, Therapeutic Exercise, Camps, Hockey, Classes and Learning, Activities.

HOUSING & SHELTER

Peel Access to Housing (PATH) is the Region of Peel’s central “one-window” application centre for subsidized housing. 


Eligible applicants on waiting list may qualify for subsidized or rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units available in the Region.

SHIP provides mental health clients with access to supportive housing and professional health services by creating a safe place where individuals gain the ability to use tools, educational resources, and community connections to improve their overall quality of life.

Youth 16-24 years old who do not have a permanent home can contact PYV for safe, stable and transitional housing.


Their goal is to provide temporary place to live for up to a year and help transition into independent living. 




They resolves disputes between residential landlords and tenant and eviction applications filed by non-profit housing co-operatives.

The LTB also provides information about its practices and procedures and the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants under the Residential Tenancies Act.

Peel Family Shelter moved from 1767 Dundas St. East to 2420 Surveyor Road in Mississauga. The new shelter will create a total of approximately 110 units for families in need.



Emergency hostel  provides temporary emergency housing for homeless men in Brampton and Caledon. 16 of the 84 available beds are reserved for special needs individuals.  Individuals can stay in one of the Region's emergency shelter for two weeks after which they must apply for Ontario Works assistance


BRAMPTON SHELTER: The Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre (FLRC) is an emergency short term shelter in the Brampton area for women and their children escaping partner violence. We accept children of all ages, all ethnicities, all religious backgrounds, and any sexual orientation

AFFORDABLE HOUSING: They provide safe and affordable housing to over 7,100 households in 70 sites in Peel.

They focus on quality housing, ensuring that our buildings are well maintained and contribute to the quality of life for our tenants.


CAWTHRA SHELTER: The Salvation Army Cawthra Road Shelter is a place of hope, partnering with homeless individuals and others in the building of healthy community as an expression of God's love.

Call 905 450 1996 - trained staff will find the best shelters in regionally managed shelters and those run by other organizations.



PEEL OUTREACH SERVICES: offers a continuum of Housing Support that seeks to end homelessness in the Peel Region and increase access to mainstream services.


Street Outreach can help get people experiencing homelessness out of the cold and on to a path to long-term housing.  




SUBSIDIZED HOUSING: Applications can be made by phone, mail, online at www.peelregion.ca/hsapply, or can be picked up at either of their offices located at 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga or 10 Peel Centre Dr, Suite B, Brampton.

Call 211 for information and referral to community and social services, such as employment, training, health clinics, ESL classes, financial assistance programs or counselling services. 211 is free, confidential, multilingual and available 24-hours a day. You do not have to give your name or personal details to get information.

Call 3-1-1 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.Monday to Friday for information about municipal programs and services, such as recreational programs, library system, snow removal, and transit. 

It's a free multilingual service available during business hours.

DRUG & ALCOHOL



GTA Intergroup is the body of Alcoholics Anonymous in The Greater Toronto Area that serves as a forum for discussion and a focus for cooperation and coordination among AA groups in the GTA in carrying the message of Alcoholics Anonymous to the suffering alcoholic.



GTAIS also offers a variety of services to Al-Anon members and the community as suggested in the Al-Anon Service Manual

PAARC offers a variety of programs and services for people experiencing challenges related to their own or someone else’s substance use, gambling, gaming or other select behavioural dependencies.  PAARC also has programs for individuals who are living with mental health challenges.

CAMH provides a wide range of clinical care services for patients of all ages and families, with Access CAMH as your centralized point of contact.


SmokersHelpline.ca is your 24/7 touchpoint for getting and staying smoke-free. Registering at SmokersHelpline.ca gives you access tt your own personal Quit Plan to complete as you prepare to quit, and to reference as you go smoke-free

Serves youth (14-24yrs) with substance use/abuse issues; will meet clients on/off site (ie: community centres, schools, etc); provides one to one counselling; provides group sessions on an as-needed basis; offers educational presentations to community and social service agencies. 

Their qualified staff treat people with alcohol, drug and/or gambling problems.  They provide counselling to help people make positive lifestyle changes and achieve their goals.

Multicultural & newcomer settlement

The Punjabi Community Health Services mission is to Improve the well-being of the individuals, families and communities using an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework.Punjabi Community Health Services

They are a registered charity governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and funded largely by the Government of Canada. 


They provide a wide range of services and programs for newcomers to Canada, communities, adults, youth and seniors.

The PMC deeply values Canadian diversity and strives to nurture a climate of trust and respect amongst all ethnic groups. In addition, The Peel Multicultural Council strives to implement innovative strategies to empower and assist marginalized community members, helping them to both be self-sufficient and accomplish their personal and professional goals. 


COSTI is committed to providing educational, social, and employment services to help all immigrants in the greater Toronto area to attain self-sufficiency in Canadian society. COSTI is a multicultural agency that works with all immigrant communities having a shortage of established services.
COSTI receives government funding for some of its programs and services.





CCS aims to empower immigrants and refugees of all religions, ethnicities, countries of origin, immigration status, sexual orientation, or political affiliation to develop the skills and acquire the necessary knowledge to settle, integrate and succeed in Canada.    

Newcomer Centre of Peel (NCP) is a multi-service charitable non-profit organization that assists the entire newcomer family in achieving settlement and integration within the Region of Peel and beyond.

United Achievers’ Community Services is a charity that provides culturally-enriching services, programs and support that enhances the lives of families and individuals throughout the Region of Peel’s Black and Caribbean communities for over two decades.

FREEDOM PASS: Youth aged 12-14 years can ride MiWay and swim at community pools for free.


They are a consortium, formed by agreement between the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board, to provide a common administration of transportation services for students residing in Peel Region. STOPR is one of thirty transportation consortia within Ontario which have been mandated by the Ministry of Education.
